What does compressing to 50MB involve?
To compress a video to 50MB, drop your file in, pick the Nitro Basic (50MB) preset or a custom 50 target, and press Compress. The tool fits the H.264 bitrate to your video's real duration with a small safety margin, so the finished MP4 lands under the cap on the first try. At this size a five-minute 720p clip or a ten-minute 480p clip both come out looking sharp with audio kept, because the per-second bitrate budget is generous compared with the 10–20MB targets.
Steps
- 1
Drag your video onto the drop zone (or click to browse) and wait for the file details to appear.
- 2
Pick a target size: Discord Free (20MB, the current free limit), Safe 10MB, Nitro Basic (50MB), Nitro (up to 1GB), or type a custom MB cap.
- 3
Optionally choose a resolution cap (1080p/720p/480p) and whether to keep audio — muting audio saves roughly 12 KB per second.
- 4
Press Compress. The engine loads once (about 25MB, then cached by your browser) and your video is compressed locally with a live progress bar.
- 5
Preview the before/after result, then hit Download and attach the file in Discord — it will play inline in chat.
