What does compressing to 8MB involve?
To compress a video to 8MB, add your file, choose Custom size, and enter 8. The compressor computes your video's exact H.264 bitrate budget from its duration — subtracting audio if kept — and encodes locally with a 5% safety margin so the file lands under 8,000,000 bytes rather than hovering at the edge. Expect roughly 30–60 seconds of 480p footage with audio kept; muting audio and clipping to the essential moments are the two highest-impact moves at this size.
Steps
- 1
Drag your video onto the drop zone (or click to browse) and wait for the file details to appear.
- 2
Pick a target size: Discord Free (20MB, the current free limit), Safe 10MB, Nitro Basic (50MB), Nitro (up to 1GB), or type a custom MB cap.
- 3
Optionally choose a resolution cap (1080p/720p/480p) and whether to keep audio — muting audio saves roughly 12 KB per second.
- 4
Press Compress. The engine loads once (about 25MB, then cached by your browser) and your video is compressed locally with a live progress bar.
- 5
Preview the before/after result, then hit Download and attach the file in Discord — it will play inline in chat.
